At times the most significant change involves taking the smallest step, but it has to begin there. Your home is not where you sleep or eat; it is where you build the ambiance, atmosphere, and essence of wellness and health for your family. From what you breathe to what you place on your skin every day, what you surround yourself with influences a great deal in terms of feeling.

The best part is, you don’t have to completely remodel your life to healthify your home. Health is little – such as making cleaner greener cleaners, cracking open a window to let in more light, or double-screening what’s on your pantry shelf. These small moves make your home a fresher, less stressed home, and care for your body and mind in tangible ways.

Here we’re going to use little, tangible subtleties, their total sum of which truly counts, which will serve you to sweep clean around you.

Your home is not just a roof over your head, it’s the only thing that indirectly affects how you feel on a day-to-day basis. The air that you breathe, the light that you receive in your room, and even what encloses your room affects your body and mind. If your home is peaceful, warm, and balancing, then most likely enough you’re peaceful, warm, and balancing too.

Think about what happens when you enter a cluttered room versus a clean room. Insta difference, right? Clutter, harsh light, or chemical smells somehow drain the energy out of you and raise the stress factor exponentially, even if you’re not even aware of it. All the little things will keep making it that much more difficult to relax, focus, or sleep well.

On the other hand, though, a home setting also could be just, beautiful powerful. Opening the window to let sunbeams in, cracking a window open to get a sniff of fresh air, or choosing cleaner, prettier things also could lift your spirits and mellow out the vibes.

It does not necessarily mean that you will have to get rid of everything and start over in hopes of making your house healthier. It is really quite simply the little things that are going to make the greatest impact.

The air inside your very own home can impact your energy level, mood, and overall health more than most people are aware. Dust, pet dander, and chemical residues all drift indoors, bearing an unseen burden of pollution. Indoor air pollution does contribute to approximately 3.2 million premature deaths worldwide annually, but it also assists in causing heart disease, stroke, and respiratory disease.

It only takes two or three simple habits to create a dramatic improvement:

● Clean and dust weekly. Weekly cleaning discourages toxins and allergens from building up.

● Incorporate houseplants into your decor. Snake plants, peace lilies, and pothos are air purifiers as well as filling your home with a warm and soothing ambiance.

● Let in the air. Have the windows open, even for a day, for one second conditions humidity and freshens the air with stale air.

● Try an air purifier. With a pet or urban setting, it will purify the air wonderfully.

Your cleaning items shouldn’t be adding more toxic chemicals to the environment than they take away. So many of the chemically produced cleaning items contain so many chemicals, they dehydrate your skin and lungs. The better news is, natural cleansing is as effective — and smells better too.

● Wash with natural products, not chemicals. Vinegar, baking soda, and a couple of drops of essential oil (lemon or lavender) are the best do-it-yourself.

● Check the labels. Choose those that are not bleached, not ammonia-based, or not perfumed.

● Make your own cleaner. Mix an equal proportion of vinegar and water and a few drops of your preferred essential oil to make a safe, deodorizing spray.

● Utilize microfiber cloths. They contain no dust and allow you to work with fewer sheets of paper.

The kitchen is the center of your house and where so much healthy change can become a reality. It’s not what you’re consuming, but how space allows those choices.

● Place healthy food where you can see it. Put fruit, nuts, and grains where you can see them. You’ll grab them when you’re hungry.

● Replace plastic with glass or stainless steel. Both are better for the planet, and steadier for secure storage of your food.

● Filter your water. A counter-top filter will clean and sweeten tap water.

● Cook As a Couple. Home Being the chef while you cook makes you king or queen of ingredients and loved and attached.

Light plays a significant role in how you feel, sleep, and function. Too much artificial light may trick the body’s internal clock, but if you have proper lighting, you will be relaxed and at ease.

● Let there be light. Open day curtains to improve energy and mood.

● Unwind with soothing light at night. Soothing, warm light signals your body to unwind.

● Establish a bedtime environment. Bedrooms are organized, screens are turned off at night, and the bed is well lit.

● Establish soothing rituals. Drink herbal tea, write something in a journal, or express one thankful moment at night.

Excellent how lighter you feel when your life is not full of clutter. Cluttering in the background is a cause of mental fatigue and stress, and the harder it is to think straight or unwind.

Start small — one room, one shelf, one drawer. Utilize the “keep, give away, or throw” system so it is not complicated. Every small win has you feeling like you’re making progress and you’re reclaiming your space.

The payback? A more peaceful home that frees up room in your mind. You will be here now, more down-to-earth, more tranquil when the world at large is longing for the same simplicity too.

A healthy home doesn’t build itself overnight, but rather it’s built with small, intentional choices incrementally. Perhaps it’s replacing cleaning products this week or opening windows more frequently next. Perhaps it’s carving out space for a family meal or getting rid of that one frustrating stain that’s been plaguing you. Each of these small actions compounds, sending waves out to your energy, your mood, and even your relationships.

If you’re ready to start simplifying your space and nurturing your wellness from the inside out, I’d love to help guide you.
